Sridevi, known for her dedication to every character she played, once took a rather unique approach to prepare for her role in the 2017 film ‘Mom’, by not speaking to her husband and the film’s producer, Boney Kapoor, for nearly three months. Reported by Hindustan Times, during the trailer launch of the movie, Sridevi revealed this quiet decision was part of her immersive preparation. “For three months, I did not speak to Boney ji as a husband,” she said. “I used to greet him with a good morning and after completing the shoot every day, wish him goodnight. That was the only conversation I had with him.” She added that she completely surrendered herself to director Ravi Udyawar’s vision to play the intense role of a mother seeking justice.
A love story that defied the norms
Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s relationship had a dramatic beginning and a quiet strength through the years. The couple got married in 1996, after having first met on the sets of Mr India in the 1980s. Their bond grew deeper through challenges, and despite a complex start, they built a family together. They welcomed their first daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, in 1997, followed by Khushi in 2000. Even when Sridevi decided to take on emotionally demanding roles like Mom, Boney supported her fully even if it meant not speaking much during the shoot.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten
Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai while attending a family wedding. Her death shocked the film world. Since then, Boney Kapoor has often spoken about his enduring love and grief. In a past interview, he said, “I want her to be around me all the time… She may not be here physically, but she’s there in my mind all the time and that keeps me going.”Sridevi’s last movie was the crime thriller ‘Mom’. She also made a cameo appearance in the SRK starrer ‘Zero’.
