The upcoming electric Mercedes-Benz CLA is set to enter the Indian market in April 2026, bringing back the CLA nameplate in an all-electric form. Bookings for the model will open on March 10. Once launched, the new electric sedan will compete with premium EVs such as the BYD Seal, which is already on sale in India. Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric vs BYD Seal: Battery, range and specs
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric will be offered in the 250+ variant and will use an 85 kWh battery pack. The company claims a WLTP-certified range of 792 km on a single charge. Power comes from an electric motor producing 272 hp, allowing the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. The model will also support DC fast charging up to 240 kW, which can add up to 400 km of range in less than 20 minutes under suitable conditions.
On the other hand, the BYD Seal is offered in three variants: Dynamic, Premium and Performance. The base Dynamic variant gets a 61.44 kWh battery and a rear-mounted motor producing 204 hp, with a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 7.5 seconds. The Premium variant uses a larger 82.56 kWh battery and a 313 hp rear motor, reducing the sprint time to 5.9 seconds.The top-spec Performance variant uses the same 82.56 kWh battery but adds a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, producing 218 hp at the front and 313 hp at the rear. This version is the quickest, with a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 3.8 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric vs BYD Seal: Pricing
In terms of pricing, the BYD Seal currently starts at Rs 41 lakh, ex-showroom. Prices for the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric will be announced in April.
