Actor Faissal Khan is back in the headlines, letting fans in on his personal life and struggles over the years. While also coming down heavily against his superstar brother, Aamir Khan, the actor, his latest interview, opened up about his short-lived marriage and the rumours that followed.
On His Divorce
In a rather candid conversation on Pinkvilla’s podcast, Faissal shared that he wed in a low-key ceremony back in August 2002. However, the marriage was short-lived and ended in a divorce just four months later. Recalling the events, he said, “I met a girl in January 2002, I married her in August 2002. I got divorced in 2002, December. So that became a chapter in my life.”
Depression Rumours
Although his marriage ended in a divorce, Faissal shared, “My family wanted me to get married. They were putting pressure on me…” He also claimed that his resistance to get married again was looked upon as ‘depression’. He shared, “They were thinking that because of my divorce, I’ve gone into depression. I’ve gone mental. Although I didn’t have that at all.”“I was never depressed,” he insisted and added, “I didn’t have time to go into depression.”
Pressure To Remarry
The actor also revealed that family interference and pressure to remarry created misunderstandings, eventually leading him to distance himself from them. “They were trying to hook me up with some person… I told them, I’m moving away from you guys. There will be fights and misunderstandings because of all these things.”Faissal explained that while he was open to finding love again, he just needed time and wanted to shift his focus to building his career and making a living. “You will never see a poor man in depression because he keeps thinking about how to earn money and how to live his life…” he said while brushing off mental health concerns as a “rich people” problem. “Most of the rich people are like this — they are depressed, alcoholic and all that,” he said, but went on to clarify that he did not disregard people actually suffering from mental health problems. “If you are mentally depressed, you should seek help. Of course, I’ll do the same. If I feel stressed, I’ll see a doctor. Why not?”
