Nushrratt Bharuccha has always been candid about the struggles behind her acting career, and in a recent conversation, she shared one of the most painful experiences she’s faced. Speaking to Nayandeep Rakshit, the actress revealed that she was signed for a film for three years—without a director, lead hero, or producer in place. She was the only one locked in for the project, and during that time, remained committed to it. But just when everything began to fall into place and the film finally got rolling, she received a call saying she was no longer part of it.
Not a star kid—just someone trending at the time
When asked whether the replacement was a case of favoritism toward star kids, Nushrratt clarified, “Mera thoda alag tha.” She wasn’t replaced by someone from a film family, but rather by someone who had become the “flavour of the season.” A more popular name, and perhaps, a more commercially viable choice in the eyes of the makers. Despite feeling shocked and let down, she didn’t name the film or the person who replaced her, choosing instead to take the high road. “I have no interest in discrediting anyone or picking up a fight,” she said.
Standing by the film—only to be sidelined
Nushrratt said what hurt the most was her loyalty. She had been the only person signed when the project had nothing going for it—no backing, no cast, no clear vision. And after three years of quietly holding on, she felt blindsided by the sudden decision to move forward without her. “Of course I felt cheated,” she admitted, recalling how she voiced her concerns and even reached out to people behind the scenes. “If I wasn’t locked for it, you had the choice to say ‘Nushrratt nahi, koi aur.’ But I was signed,” she said. Despite the setback, she noted that the film didn’t perform all that well in the end.
