Dussehra is one of the major Hindu festivals, which is also known as Vijayadashami. People celebrated this day with great pomp and show across the country. This day is dedicated to honor Lord Rama and Goddess Durga and their triumph over evil. As per Ramayana, during Treta Yuga Lord Ram- the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Killed Demon Ravana-who abducted his wife Devi Sita to kingdom of Lanka and devotees celebrate the victory of Maa Durga as she fought and killed demon Mahishasura. The triumph of the ever-pervading Truth in this universe is symbolized by the Vijayadashmi. Manas (Mind), Buddhi (Intellect), Chitta (Will), Ahankara (Ego), Kama vasana (Lust), Krodha (Anger), Moha (Delusion), Lobha (Greed), Mada (Over Pride), and Matsara (Jealousy) are among the ten negative attributes symbolized by the ten heads of Ravana that people are supposed to burn away. Similarly, Goddess Durga’s killing of many demons represents the worshipper’s removal of their ego, which stands in the way of their soul’s enlightenment. The demons Dhumralochan, Chund, Mund, Shumbha, Nishumbha, Raktabeej, and Mahishasur stand for ignorance, egoism, ahankar, and selfish aspirations. So, we have to get rid of all these bad elements if we want spiritual enlightenment in life. Today, we are going to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama and Goddess Durga.
